The Challenge
Situation Analysis
- Waste management is currently undertaken by the County Governments/ local governments through partnership with private waste management companies licensed by the County.
- Hawkers are not centrally controlled by the county/ local government therefor leading revenue losses by the county/ local governments and uncontrolled waste disposal.
- Hawkers are not controlled /provided with designated hawking zones and hawking stalls.
- Waste management is not digitized in all the counties across Kenya, therefore providing waste management challenges.
- There are no solid waste recycling projects undertaken by County Governments.
- Waste collection bins are installed by the county governments but do not cover all the streets and disposal sites in counties.
- Waste is disposed through dump sites and landfills provided by county governments.

Google Plus Code are similar to street addresses for people or places that don’t have one. Instead of addresses with street names and numbers, Google Plus Codes are based on latitude and longitude, and displayed as numbers and letters.
- Google Plus Code technology is open source and free to create and use. They are much shorter than traditional global coordinates, so they're easy to share.
- They work whether you're online or offline—you don't need an internet connection.
- They are based on a set of 20 alphanumeric characters (they do not include easily confused characters, are not case-sensitive, and they exclude vowels).
- They represent an area. Hence the resolution of the area can be changed by adding or removing characters a er the "+" sign.
With a Plus Code, people can receive deliveries, access emergency and social services, or just help other people find them. Several partners (governments, NGOs, and companies) across the world are already leveraging Google Plus Code as the technology layer for their digital address code system.
Our solution will:
- Develop integrated Google Plus Code/ Geographic Information System (GIS) based solid waste and traders’ management software with real-time mapping of waste disposers, tracking of collection routes, and personnel for waste management.
- Manage and create an efficient system to collect waste management fees from traders and waste
- Offer fabricated metallic solar-powered stalls and credit facilities to hawkers and traders to pay Single Business Permits/ trading licenses with affordable and convenient daily, weekly, and monthly payment options.
- Construction of markets, affordable business stalls, and solar-powered metallic hawking stalls to
- Set up solid waste recycling plants for plastic, paper, and glass in each county/ area of operation and use the products in the contraction of markets, hawking stalls, and roads in partnership with the county government.
- Set up waste collection bins at 200-meter intervals on busy streets and markets across the county.
